US-bound Sony VAIO computers to carry Google Chrome browser!

According to the Financial Times' late Monday report, the Sony VAIO line of computers henceforth will carry the Google Chrome browser in the US. Going by a deal signed between Sony and Google, the Chrome has already made its way to the new US-bound PCs.

As per the information forwarded by a Sony representative to Dow Jones, though the company has no plans to add Chrome to VAIOs outside the US; all VAIO-branded PCs hereafter will use Chrome as their default browser.

The Sony deal with Google is a notable one, more so since the year-old Chrome browser has failed to show any momentous growth, despite the fact that it is backed by the Internet search biggie. The Financial Times report has also said that Google is apparently working on similar, Chrome-centric deals with some other companies also.

Reports are already making rounds about Google being in discussions with Dell about packaging the software; as also of Chrome to be promoted to Internet users downloading the RealPlayer media-streaming software from RealNetworks.

Going by different statistics, the September 2, 2008-launched Chrome has nearly 30 million active users, comprising almost 3 percent of the global market; which makes it the fourth ranking browser in terms of popularity - with market leader Internet Explorer in the top slot, followed by the Mozilla FireFox, and the Apple Safari.
